Unemployment

Universal Credit/Job Seekers Allowance claimant numbers up by 6.7% (735 claimants) since January 2024, and up 2.2% (255 claimants) since December 2024. The claimant rate in East Sussex (3.7%) remains lower than national figure of 4.3%.

Economic Performance

In 2022, the economy of East Sussex generated £10.7 billion. This is known as Gross Value Added or GVA.  How you divide total GVA paints a different picture of economic performance. East Sussex compared to UK average: GVA per head = 59% GVA per job filled = 73% GVA per hour = 80%
